Our recently refurbished library has become the communal heart of Wells Hall Primary School.
With plenty of desk spaces, comfortable bean bags and sofas, children love to sit and read alone or with friends, learn in intervention groups, and attend book clubs throughout the week.
Our shelves are packed with a wide range of both fiction and non-fiction books. Beneath the fantastic literary mural that fills an entire wall are our Accelerated Reader books, a reading programme for our Years 2, 3 and 4 children that improves their comprehension and reading skills. These children can help themselves to a book to borrow and later take a quiz based on that book, with 100% results being added to our library tree display.
All children are welcome to borrow any book from our library – we have classic literature, such as Roald Dahl, Edward Lear, and Michael Morpurgo, as well as newer books from S.F. Said, Julia Donaldson and Onjali Q. Rauf . A conscious effort is made to also promote diverse texts, so children are exposed to a wide range of experiences, cultures and lives.
At the other end, we have our non-fiction area with hundreds of books from a vast variety of topics – including historical textbooks on Ancient Egypt, lift-the-flap investigative books on human anatomy and many, many more. Children love to explore new topics and learn about our world.
Our library is a wonderful world that all children are welcome to explore.
